Gossip Girl is heading to the East and getting its own Chinese remake, according to the news.

The series, which is a big hit among teenagers and the young demographics, is getting an Asian revamp, which means that New York rich brats like Blair and Serena are going to have their Chinese counterparts in this production.

Gossip Girl China is going to be called “China Girl” and will have series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as its consultants.

While the show touches on racy subjects, the Chinese version is going to have to dial it down with the talk on sex and flirting, I suppose, given the conservative culture in this part of the world.

I wonder how they can maintain that though, as sex is very much a part of this show, specifically during the first two seasons. Gossip Girl is definitely a reflection of Western culture, so I’m not sure how this will pan out in Chinese setting. It would be interesting to see just one episode to compare.

I’m also curious as to why the Chinese picked Gossip Girl for its adaptation. I guess, everywhere in the world, the lifestyle of the rich and the privileged is indeed intriguing, huh?
