The Remains of the J: I was psyched to see the ‘party of the year’ as was implied from the promos. I will say here and now that it was not the party of the year. It was a very contained affair with a few rowdy sophomores, and I must say I was slightly disappointed. remains14There haven’t been any good Constance/St Judes parties lately, have GG forgotten how to write them? I was fully ready to have the entire hotel taken over by screaming children, but maybe that’s just me. However, couple having sex in Serena’s bed was a nice touch, I liked the scene with her and Dan where they were changing the sheets. Their relationship has gotten to a kind of friends-who-talk-every-so-often-and-who-are-kind-of-nostalgic-for-a-past-relationship. It’s an odd one but it’s a nice, gentle chemistry, giving a relaxing contrast to the rest of the show.
I really don’t like Poppy. She annoys me. She’s too much like the old Georgina, but more sophisticated, which isn’t exactly interesting and frankly it’s been done before. She was really patronising to Serena in the first scene, and I think we all remember at the fashion show when she basically made Serena fight with Blair. Yes, best friends have fights like that, and perhaps Serena’s ‘I’ve got to shine sometimes’ thing was a little poignant, but Serena and Blair fight all the time, I swear, and Poppy is just an asshole really xD. Also, I haven’t seen that episode in a while, but I swear they changed the actress who played her? Maybe my brain’s making things up again.
Next is Dan. He’s still a loser, but he’s not quite so much of a twat anymore since Rachel’s left the picture.

remains2Oh, and what’s with Eric’s new ‘do? I think it was better before. Plus I swear Jonathon gets cuter everytime I see him. Not so much hot cute, just kind of sweet haha.
[Also, one of my favorite moments of the episode was "does this feel like a sitcom to anybody else?" xD Simply because I love when the characters make comments like that which relate to reality :P That doesn't make sense but whatever.]
Now the big one:
Nate/Blair! There’s been a lot of debate on this one. I personally think that Chuck and Blair are forever and that Nate should just be eye candy for us viewers and nothing else, but apparently the producers of Gossip Girl think there’s something to be gained from a rekindling of their relationship. Perhaps to get it out of their system? Perhaps to prolong the time us Chair fans are watching and waiting? Perhaps for some relief for Nair fans? I don’t know, all I know is it’s dull, predictable and soooo beginning of first season. Like, seriously. We’ve exhausted young, innocent Blair in the arms of her wonderful, gentleman prince charming Nate. She’s grown up, and Nate’s gone off with Vanessa, or Jenny, or whoever actually wants to be stuck dating him xD I don’t deny it, he’s hotttt but Nate [not Chace, let me make this clear], has just become irritating, personally. Chuck is a different matter entirely, since the two of them obviously have intense chemistry [I loved the school scene with them btw, was sweet at times] and should be together because they pure and simple love each other. Not any of this ‘he’s nice, and wonderfully boring’ stupidity. They are the only ones in the world who understand each other, therefore Nate should not get a look in. I could go on for hours about all the reasons why I think Chuck and Blair should be together, but I won’t bore you with the details xD.

remains3So that brings us neatly to Vanessa and Chuck. WOAH. Vanessa has definitely changed a lot, it’s kinda hard to believe, she’s practically not the same person anymore [has anyone else noticed this?]. I actually quite enjoyed their scenes, probably because a savage Chair-devoted part of me wants revenge, as well as them having chemistry because they’re dating in real life. Either way, as long as it’s a one-time fling, I’m happy with it. If it lasts more than a couple of episodes, then I’m throwing an [internet] tantrum.
I like this calm, boring Serena, don’t you? Again, she brings a gentle relaxation to the show, and although I’m never raving about a storyline connected with her, she’s sweet and it annoys me when people try to make her go back to her old ways.
Then Jenny. I miss her old fashionista ways, but I must say she’s grown up a lot. I liked her speech at the end about being a ‘Park Avenue princess’, could totally relate.
And finally, Dan. His storyline relating to the illegitimate child was quite imaginative, I must say, and a good way to bring it back in. However, I hate that kid’s adoptive parents, ugh they’re so annoying! Gawd and paranoid. Surely there are other Humphreys in the world, and surely there are other reasons to write to them other than they’re your half-brother you never knew about until randomly now?
Anyway, good episode overall, loads of different storylines for us to get our teeth into, and lots of building up for the next few episodes. :D
Xoxo!
